Optimising Space and Efficiency: Excavation and Levelling Project.

As the Principal Contractor, Cawarden undertook a significant project aimed at optimising space and efficiency for our client’s manufacturing facilities. The scheme involved the excavation and transfer of 20,000m3 of surplus material from their Grange Road site to Maple Court, adhering to stringent MMP and CLAIRE compliance standards.

The overarching goal of the project was twofold: to expand usable storage space at the QMS Grange Road site and to prepare a level surface for the construction of new manufacturing facilities at Maple Court – both sites located in Coleville, Leicestershire.

By leveraging our expertise and adhering to best practices, Cawarden effectively supported our client in realising their vision for enhanced operational efficiency and facility expansion.

Key Highlights:

Excavation and Transfer Process:

• Utilising our 29-tonne excavator, we meticulously excavated surplus material from the stockpile at Grange Road, loading wagons for transfer a short distance to Maple Court along a pre-agreed route.
• The material was tipped at Maple Court, following predetermined locations and protocols.

Site Levelling and Compaction:

• We meticulously levelled the site in 300mm layers, employing a 13-tonne drum roller to compact the fill material in alignment with Earthworks Specification for road works series 600 (SHW 600).
• The levelling process continued until the fill area met the required level, ensuring uniformity and stability.

Grading and Drainage Installation:

• Following site levelling, our team utilised the excavator to grade embankments and level topsoil along the periphery.
• To address drainage requirements, a filter drain was expertly installed, bolstering site functionality and resilience.
