Cawarden called to an emergency response to assist firefighters with public safety and carrying out essential demolition works to help tackle a large fire at Northwich market in Cheshire.
Following an emergency response call from Cheshire County Council, Cawarden immediately mobilised a site team and machinery to help ensure public safety and to undertake essential demolition works under the instruction of Cheshire fire crews.
To ensure public safety, the Cawarden team cordoned off the site with more than 100 Heras fence panels.
To effectively tackle the fire, crews needed to gain access to certain parts of the market roof – but access was not possible without undertaking some emergency demolition works first. So under the direction of fire officers, we demolished parts of the market’s roof and walls to help crews quickly and safely gain the access they needed.
After the fire was successfully extinguished, the site team ensured the building and site were left safe. We later returned to install a solid hoarding and removed the remaining debris.
Fast forward six months following the devastating blaze, we were asked to return to Northwich to demolish the remains of the market building and clear the site for future development.
The old market site is now a key aspect of the regeneration of the Weaver Square area.
