Cawarden, a Specialist Contractor based in Derby, has recently undergone its annual assessment by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). The contractor has achieved an outstanding score of 43 out of 45, which results in an overall performance level of ‘Excellent’. This marks the second consecutive year in which Cawarden has been rated as ‘Excellent’, but this time they have received their highest score so far.
The Scheme focuses on three main areas: respecting the community, caring for the environment, and valuing the workforce. Some notable highlights from the report are outlined below.
The audit report highlighted Cawarden’s significant involvement in the community, including its association with the Derbyshire FA and support for various charities, as a positive aspect.
Cawarden was also praised for its environmental care, having won the latest Green Apple Award for demonstrating the best environmental practices. The report commended its adherence to the circular economy, which led to the redistribution of over 3,000 items via a project on Edmund Street in the city centre of Birmingham. Additionally, its partnership with Loughborough University for a joint plasterboard recycling trial was cited by the CCS Best Practice Hub as an example of best practice, and has been published on the Scheme’s website.
The report also acknowledged Cawarden’s commitment to valuing its workforce, especially through its internal newspaper, which was considered an excellent tool for sharing news and achievements among the on-site and office-based workforce.
