Cawarden, a specialist contractor based in Derby, is proud to have played a key role in a flagship regeneration project led by Lichfield District Council—featured in a recently released case study and video highlighting how demolition and groundworks can deliver lasting social value.
Cawarden successfully delivered an integrated project comprising two main phases: the safe and sustainable demolition of the Birmingham Road multi-storey car park followed by the groundworks, and landscaping. This complex project not only paved the way for a new public realm but also delivered meaningful social impact.
Under Lichfield Council’s Social Value Policy, every element of the project was designed to go beyond the immediate contract, bringing real benefits to the local community.
Cawarden is delighted to have delivered £1.13 million in measurable social value, and here are some of the ways the contractor achieved this incredible result:
- Creating local job and training opportunities
- 20,000 miles of vehicle travel were saved
- 99% of materials were responsibly recycled
- Local dance academy sponsorship
- £114,000 spent within a 30-mile radius – supporting local businesses
- Foodbank donations
These outcomes were tracked using Compliance Chain, enabling full visibility of the project’s social and environmental contributions from start to finish.
